Falling into Spring

Falling into Spring

As some of our beloved fans will know, Soigneur is based in the little outdoorsy tourist town of Rotorua, in New Zealand. For most of you, that’s a very long way away. In cycling parlance, riding from Rotorua to London would be the same distance as riding up Alp d’Huez 1,432 times.

This has its pros and cons. The cons are that European cycling races are shown in the middle of the night and you can’t just get a cheap flight to France for a long weekend in the alps.

The pros are that our winter holidays are perfectly timed for overseas cycling trips in warmer climes, and we have some of the best mountain biking in the world 5km from Soigneur HQ.

It also means that as we are dealing with hot temperatures, sunburn and melting roads, the cycling media and socials are full of riders dealing with snow, ice and van der Poel totally owning the cyclocross circuit. Nothing spells ‘global’ like getting an email promoting snow tyres and thermal booties while you’re stoking the summer BBQ.

But as you read this, spring may just be edging over your horizon - or if you’re down under like us, autumn. Either way, we’re coming up to the shoulder seasons. Not too hot, not too cold, and often subject to some big fluctuations over the course of a day that may dawn chilly then warm up nicely like a hilly prologue. Or, to keep pushing the analogy, start off warm then end up cold, like climbing and descending a big col.

That means arm, knee and toe warmers to handle the variations. And, of course, the point of the last 280 words, which is to highlight how our super-soft merino jerseys are so perfect for such conditions.

Scientifically proven by boffins in white lab coats, merino is clearly the best for managing your body temperature for those rides you have coming up in your Spring or Autumn. And just as scientifically proven by labs with waggy tails, new jerseys are even better. Chances are you already have a Soigneur jersey, but do you have a NEW one?

Are you yet to see our new designs? Have you bought an obscure retro bike and need a custom jersey to match? Do you need one that fits you better than the one you purchased back in your younger days? Are you putting together a new event, Eroica trip, club run or other event that justifies a new jersey?
